Station X February
27, 1939
Dear Alan,
As you know, the spy in the pay of the French could
not inspect the rotors. Indeed, in the premises of
the Chistelle, the Germans use a new model of
Enigma with the lid which locks with key. Only the
steckers are accessible.
We followed your advice. Their spy first removed
the steckers by noting their position. Then he
encrypted the alphabets using the Grundstellung
values you chose. it returns to the position of the
grundstellung for each letter of the alphabet.
Then he handed over the steckers. Below are the
results. I hope you can find the wiring for the
rotors that were in use on February 7 (the day the
spy worked). In our archives, we found a message
that was encrypted the same day. If you manage to
rebuild the machine, maybe you can read the
message?
I remind you that ETW knew us. The spy found him in
a document that was locked up almost all the time
in the safe. This is ABC ... Z (it is different from the
Commercial Enigma).
